We are the English advanced course of BBSIII Mainz. The football club Mainz05 supports our school and gave us the opportunity of a stadium tour and of an interview with Jaineil Hoilett, a player of Mainz05 and the Canadian U-23 team.

Our guide, Benny, showed us the advantages and disadvantages of the Coface Arena. It was ice cold but his open-minded character and his jokes made it enjoyable. It was very interesting to see how the stadium was built; especially that it is wheelchair-friendly. Furthermore, we got to know that the playing field is five meters below the surface of the earth. That way the Mainzer Dom “gets enough fresh air”. We went to the standing stands, sat on the coach´s bench, looked into the team dressing rooms, visited the business area and peeked into the VIP box of Heinz Ketchup. We all are quite curious how the other boxes may look like.

After the guided tour we had the interview with Jaineil Hoilett in the press room. We asked him about many things, e. g. his family, his hobbies and his life as a football player. We found out that his career began in England and his idol is Lionel Messi. He seems to be a little bit shy – understandable – because we were prepared very well. Nevertheless he answered all our questions. Then we took some pictures with Jaineil and he gave everybody an autograph.

To sum up, we had a great day with a lot of interesting information and an interview with a great player.
